Justice Demanded: Government Reacts to ‘Honour Killing’ in Quetta

The main suspect was arrested on Sunday after a video went viral on social media of a couple being killed in the name of “Honour Killing” in the Dagari area of Quetta and Raids were conducted to arrest other criminals. The incident allegedly occurred around Eid al-Adha and has been ruled an honour killing. In the video, a couple who is engaged in love marriage is killed by the group of peoples.  After the clip went viral on social media, a case was registered on charges of terrorism on the orders of Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and later the Levies and the Counter-Terrorism Department arrested a primary suspect.

The case was registered against the murderers by the Balochistan government under anti-terrorism laws because no one, including people belonging to the area or others, made any reports to the Levies or CDD. Authorities said that they are trying to arrest more people involved in brutal killing. The deceased couple had allegedly married without the permission of their families and the matter was taken to the elders of the area who sentenced them to death.

Sources said that the unfortunate couple, Ehsan Samalani and Bano Satkzai, were invited to lunch in the village and later taken to a secluded spot in Dagari where they were informed of the elders’ decision. “You are allowed to shoot me, but nothing more,” Bano Satakzai said to her criminals before her murder. She asked her killers to let her walk seven steps before shooting her. She was apparently shot three times by his brother, then murdered his partner alongside.

The bodies have not recovered, which makes the investigation complicated. According to authorities, the video is believed to be recorded just before Eid al-Adha and authorities are conducting raids to arrest the remaining suspects, whose identities have been established reportedly but have not been made public.
