CM Punjab Relaunches Laptop Scheme After 8-Year Gap

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz relaunches the laptop scheme after an 8-year gap, by announcing the distribution of Core i7 high-performance laptops of the 13th generation for the students of Pakistan. A Ceremony was held at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), the historic university of Lahore. At this ceremony, CM Punjab launched the first phase of this scheme by giving laptops to the students and sitting among the students rather than on the stage. She also started the second phase of the “Honahar Scholarship,” which will give financial support to the students.

Officials stated that an online portal has been opened for students from different provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. Officials said that Punjab will get a large share, but Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will receive 3,136 laptops, followed by Balochistan with 938, Gilgit-Baltistan with 410, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with 517.

As part of the second phase of the Honahar Scholarship, each student will be awarded 20,000 PKR who is in the second to fifth year or the third to eighth semesters. In Lahore Division, More than 3121 students from the 27 public colleges, 6 medical colleges, and several universities will benefit from scholarships worth more than PKR 120 million. In addition to this, in Lahore Division, a total of 14000 students will get laptops under the laptop scheme. These laptops will be distributed in 13 public universities, 6 medical colleges, and 27 higher education institutions. A Guard of Honour was presented to the students at the event in a show of honor, where the Higher Education Department also presented a special documentary on the Laptop and Scholarships scheme.
