On Tuesday Chairman of PTA Major General Hafeezur Rehman confirmed that debates were in progress for the registration of a satellite-based network provider Starlink in Pakistan. A spokesperson of the PTA said in a statement that Rahman met with the Musk-owned Starlink team on the second job of the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona. Affairs related to opportunities for boosting digital connectivity in Pakistan, legal framework, and in the meeting access to quality broadband in remote areas were discussed. In the meeting, the Chairman of the PTA insisted on sorting out How to use the latest technology to boost the network in the country. The spokesperson repeated the saying of the PTA chairman, “Registration with a satellite regulatory body is a prerequisite for obtaining a license.”
Government to Hire Consultant
In January 2025, Reports appeared that the federal government decided to hire a consultant to finalize the regulations for Starlink’s network provider a satellite-based company in Pakistan. The development was discussed which was focused on advancing satellite network providers and technology in Pakistan in a meeting held by Shaza Fatima Khawaja a Minister of IT and Telecommunication. The session consisted of representatives from SUPARCO, PTA, and the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board, who looked into Starlink’s licensing and regulatory progress next to the development of a regulatory framework for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.

In the meeting, they planned to hire a consultant to help with the licensing process for Starlink and LEO satellites, focusing on lining up Pakistan’s satellite policies with international standards. They also debated how the use of LEO satellites could increase connectivity and contribute to the nation’s technological advancement. Moreover, The Ministry of IT showed its commitment to setting up the regulatory framework for satellite technology that meets International Standards.
When the state minister confirmed that the Satellite-based internet-providing company Starlink was registered with the Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). Before this, Elon Musk confirmed that he was waiting for the approval of Islamabad to start the Starlink satellite in Pakistan.
