“Apna Meter, Apni Reading”, The Government of Pakistan has introduced a new system by launching the new Power Smart App. The initiative helps electricity consumers to take charge of their electricity bills. The app was officially launched by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which gives authority to electricity consumers to take a picture of their meter on a specific date each month and upload it on the Power Smart app. The monthly bill will be based on the consumer’s submitted reading on the app.

The system is specially designed to decrease the issues related to electricity bills, like overbilling, reading issues, and customer complaints. The action is being praised by solid governance reform that truly authorises the users. If a user submits the meter reading on the given date, the later reading submitted by the meter reader will not be given priority. The reading will be recorded on the billing submitted by the user.

The system is favourable for those who are eligible for Government electricity subsidies. For example, users who are using up to 200 units will get a bill of around Rs. 2,330, but if a single unit is increased, then the user will lose the subsidy, and the bill will be around Rs. 8,104. The Power Smart App allow deserving customers to submit their readings and continue getting the advantage without any disturbance.
