Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) stated that Pakistan may experience slower internet speeds due to maintenance being performed on one of the main submarine internet cables. The statement issued on Monday states that a scheduled repair operation will start at 11 am on Tuesday, 14 October, to repair a faulty repeater in the undersea cable system. It is expected to be repaired within up to 18 hours; during this time, consumers may experience delays in International connectivity and service degradation. The telecom operator said, “We regret the inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience during this essential maintenance window.”

The company explained that to minimise the impact, we have made alternative arrangements, but internet users may still experience irregular access to the International websites and slower Internet speeds. Telecom stated that normal service will resume when the repeater is repaired on Wednesday or is expected to be fixed by Thursday. The submarine internet cables are an important part of Pakistan’s infrastructure, which carries the vast majority of Pakistan’s international traffic. The Faults and maintenance in these cables can cause connectivity issues in the whole country.
