Former Off-Spinner Saqlain Mushtaq Expected to Become Head Coach

According to a report on Saturday, Pakistani Off-Spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is expected to become Pakistan’s new head coach of the national cricket team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to maintain the national team after a disappointing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 defeat. According to sources, Saqlain Mushtaq has agreed after the meeting with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to take responsibility as the head coach of Pakistan before the tour of Pakistan to New Zealand for five T20I series and 3 ODIs which is set to begin from March 16 to April 5.

Former off-spinner Saqlain who previously worked as Pakistan’s head coach was approached for the position of Pakistan’s head coach before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but he was declined due to concerns associated with team selection, especially on the role of Shadab Khan. The Pakistan cricket team’s performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was very disappointing. The team failed to win even a single game. The senior players are facing inspection over their form, Now PCB is considering fresh and new talent for the Pakistan cricket team and this new squad will play with the New Zealand team and will also play T20I World Cup of 2026.

Saqlain’s expertise in spin bowling and coaching experience will benefit the Pakistan National Team as they look to prepare for future International matches including the World Cup of 2026. The official statement concerning Saqlain Mushtaq’s appointment is expected soon and PCB is aiming to finalize the head coach of Pakistan before the team goes on the tour to New Zealand on March 12.
