6 Killed and 31 Injured In Gas Tanker Explosion In Multan

At least 6 people were killed and 31 people were injured in the explosion of an LPG Gas Tanker in Multan on Monday, 27 January. The explosion in the LPG gas tanker caused tremendous fire. Scrap from the damaged vehicle landed on nearby domestic areas, causing significant demolition. The incident happened at the Industrial Estate in Multan.

Officials from the rescue said that, After many hours of attempting to control the fire they controlled it with more than ten vehicles of Fire Fighters and foam-based fire squashing. At first, they reported a total of five people killed in this explosion and later the toll rose to six as they found a dead body under the damaged house in the explosion. Two women and a minor girl lost their lives in this incident.

The Police at the spot reported that 20 houses were wrecked and the other 70 houses were partially damaged. Sadiq Ali Multan’s City Police Officer (CPO) said that many homes were ruined and cattle were also burned in the explosion. He also disclosed that the gas had been leaking from one of the valves of the gas tanker parked in the Industrial Estate. He added that some people near the tanker had already moved out as they smelled the gas leak before the gas tanker blew up.

CPO also stated that gas leakage from the tanker kept going, encouraging authorities to evacuate the nearby area. Among the injured, 13 people are in critical condition. The District Emergency officer confirmed that the emergency has been declared at the Nishtar Hospital Multan, where the injured are getting treatment. Search operations are in progress to ensure safety in the Neighboring areas. Electricity and gas supply have been suspended in this area as a preventive measure. Moreover, Multan-Muzaffargarh Road has now been resumed for traffic.

In addition, the Police had advised the locals to stay away from the gas tanker explosion area as the gas is still in the air of the explosion area. Later the Police disclosed that the site of the blast was the place of illegal filling of LPG gas and the explosion occurred during the refilling of gas. The police also said that, At the site, the LPG gas was being shifted from a large gas bowser to smaller bowsers and commercial cylinders.

The Police said The gas bowser was illegally carrying smuggled LPG. 5 small and large gas bowsers present in the warehouse were destroyed in the explosion. Moreover, The PM and president showed regret for this incident and said they would start search operations and ensure safety in the future.
