Gwadar, a new International Airport in Pakistan, was inaugurated on Monday, January 20. After the opening ceremony, PIA landed its first flight at this International Airport, making it the first commercial aircraft at the new Airport. In a statement, an official of the Pakistan Airport Authority said that the first commercial flight, PK-503, had landed at the Airport at 11:15 a.m. In this statement, the Official also said that the Flight took off from Karachi International Airport carrying 46 passengers at 9:50 am and landed at the airport facility of Gwadar at 11:15 am. Moreover, In the meantime, Defence and Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif and the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, welcomed the passengers.

In a statement, “In his Speech to the gathering, Minister Khawaja Asif highlighted the strategic importance of the New Gwadar International Airport in managing economic growth, encouraging regional tourism, and reinforcing international connectivity”. The Aviation and Defense Minister also issued certificates and shields to the guests for their contributions to the airport’s success. The statements highlighted that the new Airport is expected to play an important role in “connecting Pakistan to global markets and making a smooth path for trade, tourism, and economic development”. In Addition, the first flight was also hailed with a water salute.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Gwadar Airport spans about 4300 Acres of Land and has an annual capacity of 400,000 passengers. Moreover, its runway is 3.6 kilometers long and it is capable of landing aircraft such as Boeing 747 and Airbus A380. This Airport also includes advanced air traffic control systems, navigational aids, and security features. Recently, New Gwadar Airport was inactive due to the failure of the Aviation port authorities to market the facility internationally or engage consultants for its commercialization, which was developed with 230 million $ from China.
