PCB Selecting Young Players For New Zealand Tour

The sources said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that it will give young players a chance in the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand following the disappointing performances of the Pakistani national cricket team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The sources said that the domestic young players have been urged to come to Lahore for the recruitment process for the T20 bout against New Zealand. Sources also said a meeting between young players and the board officials is expected soon.

On March 12, the National team of Pakistan is scheduled to leave for New Zealand, where the 5 T20 series first phase starts on March 16. The decision corresponds with Pakistan’s long-lasting strategy for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which is set to be hosted in India and Sri Lanka. Rashid Latif a former wicket-keeper batter suggested some names of young players from Pakistan who should be selected for the upcoming T20 series. He recommended some names including, Hassan Nawaz, Ali Raza, Muhammad Nafay, Abdul Samad, and Akif Javed.

In addition, In his opinion, all-rounder Shadab Khan is the leading player to captain the T20I Squad. Rashid Latif also suggested many other names for the probable squad including, Muhammad Hairs, Sufyan Muqeem, Irfan Khan Niazi, Arafat Minhas, Zaman Khan, Abbas Afridi, Jahandad Khan, Agha Salman, Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Wasim, Omair Bin Yousuf, and Khushdil Shah.

In addition, Reports show that many senior players are looking to take a break from International Cricket after their bad performances in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Leading players such as Shaheen Shah, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Babar Azam are being debated in the selection meetings, to step back from the upcoming series to avoid the risk of being dropped.

As a result of Pakistan’s side’s unprofessional performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 now selection committee is considering young players in Pakistan for a new team. In their three matches in the Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Team faced defeats from New Zealand and India, and the third match was hindered due to rain which was against Bangladesh. The defending champions were out of the tournament after New Zealand defeated Bangladesh in the group-stage clash.
